In March I ran a workshop in creating circuitry to install on the streets as part of the (Il)legal Aesthetics program held by the Migrating Art Academies. This was the first time I had visited the Estonian Ptarmigan and my first involvement since leaving in March 2010. The Ptarmigan ee space is a large and much [...]

Next weekend I am travelling to Tallinn to present the following workshop Temporary urban circuits: electronic public art workshop : electronics : urban : public intervention March 09, 2013 – March 10, 2013 12:00 –> ?? 5.00€ (for materials) With the increase in DIY electronics techniques (as information is shared online and participation-based activities, such [...]

This week I have been sewing some head pieces and other appendages for Linttulalaa a group of wearable synths I will be showing during Summer Saturnalia in the yorkshire dales this summer. Tweet

One of the outfits in Maelstrom 2600 will be a sequencer. I have been experimenting with the sequencer designs in Nic Collin’s book Handmade electronic instruments. I am thinking that this sequencer would also work as a gate to control other audio. Tweet

Testing out making stretch sensors using a knitting nancy. I think this could be quite good. At STEIM showed me some they had made where they used elastic to make sure they snapped back into shape. So far I’m testing what feels good. I think a combination of wool and resistive yarn gives a good [...]

I’m going to be showing Linttulalaa, a series of wearables, at the Summer Saturnalia festival from the 20 – 22 July in the Yorkshire Dales. It looks like it’s going to be a really great festival. With four stages and lots of interesting music, art and theatre. We will be setting up in a tent [...]

I ‘ve been playing around with the idea of creating interfaces that are clumsy and awkward. My first test is this pokey hole. When you stick your finger in the hole your body resistance will control audio. I have tried this with a nand synth, you can wiggle your finger for a good effect. Tweet

I’ve been playing with vector shapes and 3d cameras in after effects a bit lately. Here’s a video I made for a QUT event and a colourful video inspired by 80s video graphics (such as the video logos found on vhs movies) Tweet

We have been researching circuitry and sounds for Maelstrom 2600. The idea is that it will be modular in nature but when trying to imagine and visualise the process we realised that a traditional modular synthesizer might not work in the way that we require. One important aspect of each costume is that it will [...]
